FEELINGS
THEME
CRAFTS:
Feeling Painting
Divide a piece of paper
into 4 sections. Have the children draw a picture of Happy, Sad, Mad and
scared one in each of the 4 sections. Label the boxes for the children.
Smile Craft
Give the children big yellow
circles of construction paper. Let them use glitter, markers, stickers,
etc. to decorate their smiley face...then punch holes in the circle, thread
with yarn, and then let them wear their smiley face necklaces!
GAMES & ACTIVITIES:
A Crying Skit
Setting: The first person
comes on stage crying. The next person then comes out, asks the first
one what's the matter, and the first one whispers in his/her ear.
Then they both start crying long and loud. Several others come out
one at a time and repeat the same action. When everyone is on stage
crying, moaning, howling, sniffling, etc., the last person comes out and
asks really loudly: Why is everyone crying?! They all answer in unison:
Because we don't have a skit!
Feelings Chart
Ask the children "How do
you feel today?" Record the answers and create a chart. Talk about the
results.
Feely Faces
Make enough happy, sad,
and mad faces for the children in your class. When doing circle, you can
ask them how they are feeling that day. They would take the appropriate
face and put it next to their name on a board.
Guess how I feel:
Have one child stand in
the middle of the circle and act out an emotion. The other children can
guess what it is.
Ha, Ha!
Equipment: None
How to Play: Find
a carpeted area indoors or a grassy area outdoors to play this game.
Have the group stand in a line. The first person lies down and the
second lies down with his/her head on the first person's stomach.
One by one the players lie down with their heads resting on the stomach
of the previous player. After everyone is arranged on the floor the
game can begin! The first person says, "Ha." The next person
says, "Ha, Ha." The third says, "Ha, Ha, Ha," and so on down the
line with each person adding an extra "Ha" on their turn. The object
is to be able to get down the line without anyone making a mistake in the
number of "Ha's" said and without everyone breaking out into total laughter.
Once the group has mastered this, make the game more difficult by suggesting
they change their tone of voice or adding in some "Hee, Hee's" or "Ho,
Ho's."
Simon Says "Feelings"
Play Simon says with the
children substituting feeling phrases for the usual directions. For example,
say: "Simon says, look happy. " In between commands you can ask them questions
about those feelings, such as "What makes you feel happy?"
SONGS:
Feelings song
(Tune: Twinkle, twinkle)
I have feelings, you do
too
Let's all sing about a few.
I am happy, I am sad,
I get scared, I get mad.
I am proud of being me.
That's a feeling too, you
see.
I have feelings, you do
too.
We just sang about a few.
If You're Happy and You
Know It
If you're happy & you
know it (clap your hands)
silly-shake your head
angry-stamp your feet
sad-say boo hoo (rub eyes)
hungry-rub your tummy
sleepy-close your eyes
excited-yell hooray (raise
arms overhead)
scared-hide your eyes
The Smile
A scowl and a smile
Met each other one day;
But somehow the scowl
Was not able to stay.
Facing the smile
It just melted away.

FOOD SUGGESTIONS:
Rice Cake Faces
Spread with peanut butter,
use raisins, red hots, chocolate chips, nuts, etc. to make own face for
snacks. Have the children choose an emotion to convey. A similar idea could
be used for English muffin pizzas.
